There is no set number of sessions that applies to everyone. The length of therapy depends on your individual goals, needs, and what you hope to work through.
Together, you and your psychotherapist will regularly discuss your progress and determine what feels most helpful along your path. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process, and every person’s experience is unique.
Getting started with therapy begins with reaching out to book a consultation appointment. This is an opportunity for us to learn more about what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether we feel like the right fit to work together.
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the process. A strong therapeutic relationship is built on trust, openness, and feeling comfortable being yourself.
If we both feel that working together would be a good fit, we will discuss the next steps toward beginning therapy.
After we have determined that we may be a good fit to work together, you will receive an intake form to complete before your initial assessment. This allows your therapist to begin understanding your background, experiences, and what brings you to therapy.
During your first session, your therapist will review the consent form and discuss the therapeutic framework, including important information about confidentiality, policies, and what you can expect from the therapy process. This creates a foundation of safety, trust, and collaboration.
The initial assessment is an opportunity for your therapist to learn more about you, your experiences, relationships, strengths, and the challenges you are navigating. Your therapist will ask questions to understand your experiences, patterns, strengths, and the ways you have learned to navigate life’s challenges.
Following the initial assessment, you and your therapist will collaboratively develop treatment goals that reflect what is most meaningful and supportive for you. These goals will be reviewed together in a follow-up session as you continue the therapeutic process.
