Before your first appointment, ask your insurer:

Our private psychotherapy services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), Ontario's publicly funded health insurance program.

Depending on your eligibility, coverage may be available through the following programs and benefits:

Our therapists are registered providers with these programs. Each program has different rules about who qualifies, how much it pays and whether approval is needed before sessions begin. Depending on your coverage, you may need to pay part of the session fee yourself.

Please get in touch with us before your first appointment so we can discuss the program you plan to use and any arrangements needed.

We offer direct billing to your health insurance provider when possible to simplify payment. This service reduces paperwork, minimizes credit card fees, and simplifies your transactions.

Coverage varies by insurance plan, so we recommend checking your psychotherapy benefits with your provider. If direct billing is not available, we will provide a receipt for you to submit for reimbursement.

To begin therapy, reach out and schedule a consultation appointment. This session lets us discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and determine whether we are a good match to work together.

Finding the right therapist is an important part of this process. A successful therapeutic relationship relies on trust, openness, and feeling comfortable being yourself. If we both agree that collaborating would be beneficial, we'll discuss next steps to start your therapy journey.

Once we determine that we may be a good fit to work together, you will receive an intake form to complete before your first session. This form helps your therapist understand your background, experiences, and the reasons you came to therapy.

During your initial assessment, your therapist will review the consent form and explain the therapeutic framework. This includes discussions about confidentiality, policies, and what to expect from the therapy process, helping establish a foundation of safety, trust, and collaboration.

The initial assessment gives your therapist a chance to learn more about your story, relationships, strengths, and the challenges you are facing. Through conversation and gentle exploration, your therapist will gain insights into your needs and the goals you wish to work toward in therapy. Together, you and your therapist will collaboratively identify goals that are meaningful and supportive for you. These goals may continue to evolve as you progress through the therapeutic process.

Finding the right therapist is an important step in the therapy process. The therapeutic relationship is built on trust, safety, respect, and feeling understood. Finding someone who feels like the right fit can significantly enhance your therapy experience and outcomes.

We encourage you to take the time to explore various therapists and consider factors such as their education, experience, areas of focus, therapeutic approaches, availability, fees, and the languages they offer. Reading therapist profiles, asking questions, and connecting through an initial consultation can help you learn more about their approach.

Beyond credentials and experience, pay attention to how you feel when speaking with a therapist. Do you feel heard, respected, and accepted? Do you feel safe, supported, and open? Does their approach align with what you are seeking?

At Inner Core Psychotherapy, we invite you to connect with us to see if we are a good fit for your needs. Ultimately, we encourage you to find the therapist who feels right for you, whether that's with another qualified professional or with us.

Meet our therapists and explore their education, experience, languages and therapeutic approaches to find someone who feels like a good fit for your needs.

Online therapy lets you meet with your therapist by video from a private, comfortable space. At Inner Core Psychotherapy, we offer virtual sessions through Jane, our secure online platform, for clients in Ottawa and across Ontario.

You can join using a smartphone, iPad or other tablet, or a laptop or desktop computer with a camera and microphone. You will receive a link to join your session one day before your appointment and again 30 minutes before it begins.

You will need a reliable internet connection and a quiet space where you can speak privately. Headphones can help protect your privacy.

During your session, you and your therapist will explore your concerns and work toward your goals, much as you would in an office. You can ask questions, discuss what feels comfortable and let your therapist know if you need a pause.
